Curt Christman Founding Owner

Curt-edited

Curt started Lewis County Monuments in 1991.  With no experience in the memorial industry, his experience in Food Service, Logging and the Beef and Dairy industries gave him a well rounded background.  The ability to switch between very diverse industries allowed him to quickly learn and adapt to something new.  Curt grew up with a interest in art but never had a reason to apply himself to learning the skill.   After hiring a local artist for the fine art etching to be done on monuments, Curt spent a winter learning to draw and began to do etchings himself.  Ten years later his skill as a fine art etcher has advanced and now each summer an average of 25 etchings are produced, each with a satisfied customer.

Curt has been happily married to Delite since 1981, together they raised two boy’s and two girls.  They became grandparents in 2013 and so far have five grandchildren.  They currently live in Lowville NY. Curts intrests are diverse,  While he enjoys hunting deer each fall he is also highly skilled in preparing a tasty venison dish.  Each winter he spends time painting and drawing, both enhance his skills as a memorial etcher.  In the summer Curt and wife Delite enjoy short bike rides and motorcycling when time allows.  Curts been know to wet a line from time to time and on rare occasions even pull in a fish or two.  Several years ago Curts brother Clarence was the inspiration to begin writing short stories.  At home Curt and Delite currently are caring for Curts aged parents full time, helping them deal with the challenges of growing older day by day.

Christian is Curt’s oldest son who started working with him as a little boy, by following daddy around. Over time Christian started to take interest in the business. By the time he was done with high school Christian knew he wanted to work full time with Lewis County Monuments. He started as Shop Manager and worked with Curt learning to do the engraving, setting, cleaning, and repairs. In 2008 Lewis County Monuments became North County Memorials, Inc. At that time  Curt and Christian became partners and incorporated the company. Christian started to learn the designing and after a few years is now the head designer. Before Christian transitioned from the shop to the office he trained his cousin Matt Zehr to do the prep work and sandblasting. From there Christian took over as the Operations Manager. Christians does it all from sales, customer service, purchasing, accounting, advertising, lets just say not much goes on in North County Memorials Inc. that Christian is not involved in.
